After discontinuing post-level views and clicks in February 2023, Google announced on September 10, 2026, that businesses would once again be able to see view counts for each post through its new Google Posts Reporting feature.

So if your law firm has been posting updates on its Google Business Profile, you may now be able to see the views recorded for each post when it appears in Google Search or on Google Maps. Google is also showing data for posts published within the past 18 months, so your firm may already have enough information to compare which topics and updates received the most recorded views.

This article explains what happened to Google’s previous post reporting, what has changed now, what a post view can and cannot tell you, and how your law firm can use this new data without confusing views with clicks, leads, or higher rankings.

What Changed With Google Posts Reporting?

The practical change is simple: your law firm no longer has to publish a Google Business Profile post without knowing whether users actually saw it.

Google now shows a view count on individual posts through a feature it calls Google Posts Reporting. That means you can look beyond the performance of your Business Profile as a whole and start comparing the reported visibility of specific posts.

Here is what Google has announced:
What ChangedWhat This Means for Your Law Firm
Individual posts now show view countsYou can see how many views Google recorded for a specific post instead of relying only on overall Business Profile performance.
Reporting covers the past 18 monthsIf your firm has already been posting, you may have historical data available to review rather than having to start from zero.
Updates, offers, and events are includedThe reporting is not limited to one type of Google Business Profile post.
Search and Maps views are combinedThe number shows total views across both Google surfaces rather than separating Search from Maps.
The feature is rolling out globallyNot every Business Profile may receive access at the same time.
The data is not currently available through the APIFor now, firms and agencies need to review the view counts inside the Business Profile dashboard.
For a law firm, this creates a post-level visibility metric that has been missing for more than three years. If you have been sharing articles, legal updates, attorney announcements, or other firm news through your Business Profile, you can now begin comparing which individual posts received the most recorded views.

How Can Law Firms Use Google Business Profile Post Views?

Your law firm may already publish Google Business Profile posts, but until now, you have had little visibility into which individual posts people were actually seeing.

You might post about a legal problem one week, introduce a lawyer the next, then share a legal update. If the feature is available on your profile, you can now compare their recorded view counts.

That gives you a better way to answer four useful questions:

  1. Which legal problems get the most exposure?
You can see whether posts about specific client problems consistently receive more views than broader updates about your firm or services.
  2. Which practice-area topics get the most attention?
If your firm handles several practice areas, you can compare whether posts about certain services are being seen more often than others.
  3. Which types of posts perform differently?
You can compare article promotions, lawyer introductions, legal updates, firm announcements, and other posts instead of assuming they receive similar exposure.
  4. Does being more specific make a difference?
You can compare a post addressing one clear legal problem with a broader post describing the practice area your firm handles.

Over time, those patterns can help you decide which topics to test more often and whether your posts reflect the matters and potential clients your firm wants to attract.

The post with the most views is not automatically the most valuable. Views show recorded visibility, not whether someone clicked, contacted your firm, or became a client.

How Law Firms Can Check Google Business Profile Posts and Their View Counts

Google provides performance data only for verified Business Profiles. If you are asked to verify your profile, complete that process before looking for post-view data.

To check your firm’s posts and their view counts:

  1. Go to Google Business Profile and sign in
  2. Open the Business Profile you want to review if you manage more than one
  3. Select ’Posts’
  4. Look at the view count shown on each post card

If your law firm has been posting regularly, do not look only at your newest posts. The reporting covers posts published within the past 18 months.

That means you may already have enough historical data to compare topics, practice areas, and post types before changing what you publish next.

Are Google Business Profile Posts Important for Law Firm SEO?

Google Business Profile posts can be useful, but our sample did not show frequent posting as a common trait among law firms appearing in the top three Map Pack positions.

Of the 19 law firms included in our Map Pack analysis, only 4 appeared to be publishing Google Business Profile posts.

By comparison, 15 of the 19 firms were receiving new Google reviews at least monthly.

This comparison does not prove that reviews made those firms rank or that posting had no effect. However, Google says that more reviews and positive ratings can help a business’s local ranking. Reviews may therefore deserve more attention if your firm has limited time and resources.

Still, GBP posts serve a different role within your profile. They let you share useful, timely information with people who already find your firm on Google Search or Maps, including:

  • New legal articles
  • Changes in the law
  • Practice-area updates
  • Attorney or firm news

The new view counts make those posts easier to evaluate. Use the counts to compare recorded visibility, then consider that data alongside tracked website clicks, calls, and inquiries when possible.

How Can Law Firms Get More Views on Google Business Profile Posts?

Google does not provide a guaranteed method for increasing post views. However, you can give your posts more opportunities to appear by keeping your Business Profile complete and accurate and by publishing timely information that relates to the services and legal problems your prospective clients care about.

Before focusing on post frequency, review your business information. Make sure your business name, primary business category, contact information, hours, services, and website link are accurate. Complete information can help Google match your profile with relevant local searches, even though it does not guarantee more post views. When creating a post:

  • Focus on one clear topic
  • Upload an accurate, relevant image or video
  • Explain why the information matters to the intended reader
  • Add an action button that leads to the most relevant article, practice-area page, or landing page
  • Keep the linked page consistent with the post
  • Review the resulting view count before deciding which topics to publish again
